Military veteran and personal trainer decides to be his own boss

June 23, 2016

What did you do before becoming a Fitness Together franchisee?
JD served in the United States Marines and was a trainer at a “Big Box Gym” before becoming an owner three year ago.

Do you have a college degree? If so, in what area?
JD has a degree in Business Management from the University of Phoenix.

What fitness certifications do you have?
CPT, Crossfit Level One, TRX Specialist, FMS

Why Fitness Together as opposed to opening your own fitness facility?
When the opportunity to buy his studio came up, JD says, “it was the right thing to do.” He likes the benefits of the franchise system. He takes advantage of the support and the many resources the system has to offer.

What’s the most rewarding part of being a Fitness Together owner?
JD loves to train clients and finds it rewarding to see them grow and meet their fitness goals. The same goes for his trainers and employees. He also enjoys the freedom that comes with being his own boss. “The client’s success keeps you motivated.”

What part of being a business owner has been the most challenging for you?
The hardest part for JD was figuring out how to be a business owner. “Costly mistakes teach you valuable lessons.” JD also thinks managing employees and employee turnover are challenging.

Would you like to own additional Fitness Together studios?
JD does have plans to open another Fitness Together studio in the future. Once his current studio is successful enough where it can run itself, he will open another.
